"Theatre Play
From my ancestors I came,
and I feel so worn and frayed....
…thinking…
They poured into me
all they had lived through,
imprinted every single deed—
their love, their pain, their fear, their grief.
Then I in turn pass on
my own experience as a mother,
unknowingly I lay upon them
a drama seasoned by generations.
I carry on my back
the burden of my lineage
am I to hand it, in a single breath,
without foreseeing consequence,
over to my children?
Will I be yet another branch
repeating all the same mistakes,
or will I be the black sheep
who dares to break away in ache?
I’ll begin by healing myself,
to shield my children from the chain.
I’ll heal my mother, father—yes, and you,
and shower you with what I’ve gained.
And so together we all play…
one vast, unwritten theatre piece.
I am spectator, actor, director,
crying silently into my pillow.
Who among us deserves the Oscar
in this motion picture called Life?"
